The track work has been completed, and the date for the inaugural voyage set: The Premium HTML5 Game “SteamPower1830” (http://www.steampower1830.com) will roll out in a closed beta version on October 10. Players around the world will get their first chance to explore the features of this cross-platform game whose HTML5-based Ubique Game Engine allows gaming sessions to transition seamlessly between PCs, tablets and smartphones. Closed beta registration is now enabled on www.steampower1830.com. Speed has its benefits: Access will be granted in chronological order according to the time of registration – with the exception of beta key owners, who can jump straight into the game. In addition, active players of the beta version will be rewarded with the powerful “Goliath” steam locomotive.

SteamPower1830 HTML5 Game Closed Beta to Launch on October 10

SteamPower1830 is a strategy game which is decided entirely by the tactical approach and skill applied to resource management and the expansion of your railway network. To build your own railroad empire, new towns must be established and the flow of goods optimized to enable small settlements to grow into huge cities. Flexibility of gameplay is what sets SteamPower1830 apart from ordinary browser and tablet games, with room for various strategies and individual freedom as players design their own vibrant miniature world. The immense depth of the game, which invites gamers to continuously optimize their tactics, guarantees that the power of this railway universe to engage the player will never run out of steam.

The closed beta version (available in English and German) comprises the single-player mode with 15 maps covering various European countries. Recalling the world’s first regular railway service, the game begins with a tutorial played on the Liverpool and Manchester line which was first opened in 1830. Genre newbies, casual and mid-core gamers will feel right at home on their engine thanks to the game’s easily understood concept and intuitive navigation. If you still hit any rough spots on your ride through the stages of the closed beta game, Hexagon Game Labs would be more than happy to receive your feedback.

Peter Cukierski, Chief Game Officer and co-founder of Hexagon Game Labs is excited about the closed beta launch: “Over the past few months, we have developed a game based on HTML5 that clearly indicates where cross-platform gaming is headed. We are brimming with anticipation as SteamPower1830 is about to set out on its ‘maiden voyage’. Even the closed beta version will show gamers what an online game should feel like in the year 2013. To fully optimize SteamPower1830 for cross-platform functionality, we now depend on the feedback we receive from our test players.”

Because it is based on HTML5 technology, SteamPower1830 is a cross-platform game which will run on the majority of current end devices that are equipped with an up-to-date Internet browser, a certain amount of processing power and an Internet connection. For the closed beta launch, SteamPower1830 was tested for the most widely used mobile devices from Apple and Samsung. More details on the end devices for which SteamPower1830 has already been tested and optimized are provided in the whitelist – which we are expanding continuously.

Information on the “Goliath” Locomotive

(permanently enabled for closed beta players from Level 20)

As a thank-you to our closed beta testers, all the players who have reached Level 20 will receive the “Goliath” steam locomotive (equivalent to the value of five gold coins in the game) as a permanently enabled feature on their account.

The Goliath engine relies on the massive tractive force of a large driving wheel. Due to its design, this locomotive has no slippage and is able to pull much heavier carriages than a conventional locomotive could. It is possible to overload the carriages by 50 percent. Compared with the conventional train types, the maximum number of two carriages and top speed of 40 km/h remain unchanged.
