Toshiba HK3R2 and HK3E2 Enterprise SSDs Unveiled
The HK3R2 and HK3E2 series offer 6Gbit/s SATA speeds with Toshiba controller and 19nm second-generation NAND flash memory
Toshiba Corporation’s (TOKYO: 6502) Semiconductor & Storage Products Company today announced the expansion of its line-up of enterprise SSDs with the addition of two new series of enterprise SSDs – the HK3R2 series for read-intensive workloads and the HK3E2 series for value-endurance workloads. These 6Gbit/s[1] SATA enterprise SSDs join Toshiba’s broad portfolio of enterprise storage solutions featuring a variety of endurance ratings to meet the needs of specific application requirements and customer environments. Shipment starts from today.
Read-Intensive HK3R2 Series: Available in capacities up to 960GB[2] in a 2.5-inch standard form-factor (7mm Z-height). The HK3R2 series is designed for read-intensive applications and workloads such as read caching, video streaming and data center storage. It has an endurance rating of one DWPD (drive writes per day)[3] for five years with a random 4KB enterprise workload.
Value-Endurance HK3E2 Series: Available in capacities up to 800GB in a 2.5-inch standard form-factor (7mm Z-height). The HK3E2 series is designed for mainstream enterprise applications such as exchange mail servers, web servers, database servers, indexing servers and data center storage workloads. It has a three DWPD endurance specification for five years, with a random 4KB enterprise workload.
Ideal for the enterprise environment, both SSDs are equipped with power-loss and end-to-end data protection features with a common controller and mechanical design. Additionally, both the HK3R2 series and the HK3E2 series incorporate Toshiba’s proprietary QSBCTM (Quadruple Swing-By Code) error-correction technology[4], a highly efficient error correction code (ECC), which helps protect customer data from corruption caused by NAND flash memory media wear, thus improving reliability and extending the life of Toshiba SSDs. The series also feature both a Toshiba-designed SATA SSD controller and Toshiba 19nm second-generation MLC NAND flash memory.
