Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router Preview

Netgear unveiled their newest wireless router on June 25th and they didn’t pull any punches with this product introduction. The Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8000) builds on the latest 5G Wi-Fi XStream technology from Broadcom and captures the crown for fastest consumer Wi-Fi router, if only for a while. On the surface, the most notable improvement is the addition of another 5 GHz 802.11ac band, stepping outside the dual-band architecture that has dominated the marketplace for more than five years.

GDC14: Microsoft DirectX 12 Debuts

GDC14: AMD RapidFire and Cloud Gaming

At the 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC14) this morning, AMD revealed full-functional working demonstrations of their AMD RapidFire Graphics API technology harnessing the power of Cloud-based streaming 3D applications. A bare-bones system with no software installed located Crysis 3 on a Cloud gaming server, and within moments the player was earning frags (actually, he was desperately trying). On the surface this concept may not sound terribly interesting, but it stands to disrupt how we obtain and play video games and graphical design software. For desktop and mobile users software no longer is downloaded or installed; games and applications are essentially a click away.

There is a lot of excited stuff happening at CES 2014. I have to be honest, though, while I think 4K Ultra HD is cool, it is also currently way outside of my budget. Gigabyte Debuts Aorus Gaming Brand

Gigabyte unveiled a new brand specifically for gamers, called Aorus (pronounced Orus). I was told the “A” is silent. Aorus parts should be available starting the end of February and will launch with the thinnest and lightest GTX SLI gaming laptop available, called the X7. The X7 is customizable and comes loaded with a Core i7 CPU, lots of RAM, up to 2 mSATA SSDs plus an HDD up to 2.5TB. It has a full 1080p 300 nit display powered by two GTX 765M video cards. All that power has to run hot, so Aorus has built a custom cooling solution with 5 heat pipes and side and back vents in addition to the bottom vents to whisk that heat away. You get 5 separate profiles with 5 macro keys each on the X7. The whole package weighs in at just under 6.5lbs and is a mere .9 inches thick.
