Toshiba AL13SXB and AL13SXQ Series Hard Disk Drives Introduced

Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced new additions to its lineup of enterprise performance hard disk drives (HDD), the AL13SXB series and the self-encrypting AL13SXQ series, which are suitable for mission-critical enterprise applications. Sample shipping will start from the middle of March. The AL13SX series offers capacities up to 600GB[1], the largest-class storage capacity[2] in a 15,000 RPM 2.5-inch design, double the maximum capacity of previous generation drives[3]. The drives provide lower latency and power savings compared with legacy 3.5-inch 15,000 RPM 600GB models. Customers have the choice of AL13SX drives that support 512n (native), 512e (emulation) or 4Kn storage formats. Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced the launch of slim 7mm-height 2.5-inch, two-platter, 5,400 RPM SATA hard disk drives (HDD). The new MQ02ABF series, Toshiba’s first two-platter 7mm-height HDD model, delivers up to 1TB of storage capacity[1] and is designed for thin mobile computing applications. Seagate Desktop HDD ST4000DM000 Review

Seagate has recently re-branded their consumer storage products, formerly named Barracuda, in time for the launch of their 15th-generation. The 4TB Seagate Desktop HDD (OEM model ST4000DM000, retail kit STBD4000400) features a SATA 6Gb/s interface with Native Command Queueing (NCQ). Eight data heads read and write to four 1GB disc platters which enable 625Gb/in2 areal density. Cached by 64MB DRAM, this 5900 RPM hard disk drive is specified to move files at 180 MB/s sustained data rate.
