FUNC Shows Off Complete Gaming Line at CES 2014

Benchmark Reviews met up with FUNC at their suite at the Hard Rock Hotel during CES 2014 to talk about what they’ve been up to. FUNC is a newcomer to the gaming peripherals market and have been working on a complete line of gaming peripherals including a mouse and pad, a keyboard, and a headset. FUNC’s design ideology is centered on functionality perfected; including everything you need in a gaming peripheral and nothing you don’t.

On display at the FUNC suite were the FUNC KB-460 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard and the FUNC MS-3 Gaming Mouse with Surface 1030 Mousepad. These peripherals aren’t really new and you can check out Benchmark Reviews article on the FUNC KB-460 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard here. The peripherals aren’t old hat either. The KB-460 was released only about a month or so before CES 2014 and the MS-3 was released earlier in 2013. The real story from FUNC at CES 2014 was the HS-260 Gaming Headset.

While the HS-260 Gaming Headset was showcased at Computex 2013, it still isn’t available for purchase as of CES 2014. That will change soon. FUNC says they will start shipping the headset on January 27^th, 2014 and it should cost around $80. The FUNC HS-260 Gaming Headset is extremely durable and flexible. The band can be twisted and bent very extensively without breaking or tensing. That’s good news for gamers with kids (people like me) or for anyone that doesn’t want to have to handle their headsets with cloth gloves on.

Speaking of cloth, the FUNC HS-260 Gaming Headset comes with swappable cloth or leather ear cups to suit your whim. When I tried them on, the leather ear cups were more comfortable, but I can see myself opting for the cloth version if I plan on an extended gaming session.

Possibly my favorite feature of the HS-260 Gaming Headset is the ability to swap the mic and input cables. The ports on both ear cups can be used for either mic or cable, so if you like your cable on the right and your mic on the left, you can have it your way. The right ear cup also has the volume control, rather than using an inline control. That could help gamers avoid searching for inline controls during a battle.

As far as technical specifications go, the FUNC HS-260 Gaming Headset has a single, tuned 50mm driver in each ear with a standard frequency response from 20 to 20kHz. The HS-260 has a closed acoustic construction with a 32 ohm impedance and 3m cable.
