QNAP® Systems, Inc. today announced the release of the TS-x53A series – the world’s first QTS-Linux dual system NAS. Powered by an 14nm Intel® Celeron® N3150 quad-core 1.6GHz processor with hardware encryption acceleration, and Intel 8th generation HD Graphics, the TS-x53A series provides 4K UHD HDMI output, 4K H.264 video hardware-accelerated transcoding & playback, snapshots for multiple recovery points, integrated virtualization and container support. The TS-x53A series can provide a secure private cloud environment for file backup and sharing, and with the new Linux Station it can act as a great base for Internet of Things (IoT) application and developments.

QNAP Quad-Core TS-x53A Series NAS Debuts

The TS-x53A series is available in 2, 4, 6 and 8-bay models and is powered by a new Intel Celeron 1.6GHz processor (burst up to 2.08GHz) with dual-channel 4GB or 8GB DDR3L-1600 RAM configuration (upgradable to 8GB). Coupled with SATA 6Gb/s support and 2/4 Gigabit LAN ports, the series delivers up to 400MB/s throughput performance for business applications and to meet multitasking requirements. It also features AES-NI hardware-accelerated encryption for over 200MB/s AES 256-bit encrypted transfer rates for either full NAS volumes or shared folders. With the new Linux Station, users can plug in a HDMI monitor and USB keyboard & mouse to the NAS as if it were a standard Linux desktop system.

“The next-generation TS-x53A QTS-Linux Combo NAS series is specially designed as a Linux-based gateway for the IoT era” said Jason Hsu, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “Alongside its high-speed data transmission and advanced snapshot features, it supports versatile HDMI applications and 4K video playback & transcoding. The TS-x53A series greatly extends possibilities for work and multimedia use, providing users with a complete storage solution with higher value to cost.”

Powered by 8th-generation Intel HD Graphics, the TS-x53A series can be connected to an HDMI TV or A/V receiver to enjoy up to 4K UHD media playback with up to 7.1 channel HD audio passthrough using Kodi™ media player. A free remote control is included for greater convenience. The TS-x53A series supports hardware-assisted real-time 4K H.264 video transcoding for videos to be smoothly played on various devices and Smart TVs. The dual HDMI output allows two monitors to be used in either a “duplicated” or “extended” desktop configuration.

Featuring the latest QTS 4.2 operating system, the TS-x53A series provides various applications to meet business needs such as up to 256 volume/LUN snapshots and max 1024 total snapshots per NAS for easy backup, restoration and cloning; cross-platform file sharing & backup for Windows®, Mac®, Linux® and UNIX® users; and disaster recovery solutions with Real-Time Remote Replication (RTRR), rsync and cloud storage backup. TS-x53A series users can also flexibly expand their storage on demand by connecting an 8-bay UX-800P or 5-bay UX-500P expansion unit.

Users can run multiple Windows, Linux, UNIX and Android™ based virtual machines on the NAS with Virtualization Station; download apps from the Docker Hub Registry® by using the Container Station which integrates both LXC and Docker® virtualization technologies.

QNAP offers versatile apps to improve work productivity: Qsirch quickens NAS file searches with its powerful real-time full-text search engine; Qsync synchronizes files across client computers and devices with the NAS, and is helpful for group file sharing and collaboration. Users can further increase the functionalities of the TS-x53A series with the built-in App Center.

The TS-x53A series supports OceanKTV – QNAP’s NAS-based karaoke system and features two 6.3mm microphone jacks and one 3.5mm Line Out audio jack. With high-capacity storage, tone-tuning functions, an intuitive user interface and HDMI output, the TS-x53A is transformed into an innovative and budget-friendly karaoke system. The experience can be controlled using a dedicated companion app for AndroidTM and iOS® devices.
