For most people, sitting in a PC chair is not a big deal, but for me, this is the first time I’ve ever been able to sit in a PC chair that has had arms attached, and was capable of handling my weight. I’m 6’5″ and 355 pounds currently. I used to weigh as much as 485 pounds, and never could find a PC/office chair that could handle my weight or height. EWin fixes both issues with the Flash XL series of PC gaming chairs.
When the opportunity came to test the Flash XL PC gaming chair I was hesitant at first because of my weight. I have broken chairs in the past that I have used, and never thought I could own a PC chair, and it be durable enough to handle my height and weight.
The EWin Flash XL office gaming chair has a weight capacity of 500 pounds, and it has steel frame construction with an aluminum base with 5 caster wheels. Not only will the Flash XL handle your weight, but handle your height as well. I am very tall, and I can actually make use of the head rest built into the Flash XL gaming chair. I do not even need to raise the chair at all for my legs to be comfortable and feet sit planted flat on the floor. EWin has made a great looking gaming chair, but how well does it function, and how comfortable is it for hours of gaming?

The E-Win Flash XL is an office gaming chair for enthusiasts, selling online for $449.00 (Amazon | NewEgg). After un-boxing the EWin Flash XL gaming chair, it will require some assembly, which took me about 20 to 30 minutes to do. Assembly of the Flash XL wasn’t very difficult and the instructions are fairly clear with a few minor tweaks to the order, which I’ll discuss below.

Once you pull the Flash XL out of the shipping box this is what you’ll see: The chair is covered in a thick plastic wrap, while the arm hinges for the seat back have foam tubes placed over them to keep them from tearing the chair during transit.
Also, you have a box with instructions, and all the other parts to assemble the Flash XL.

The instructions are short and to the point. The part of the instructions that you do not have to do concerns the arm side covers that go over the hinge that connects the seat back of the chair to the lower half. Those covers were partly installed, and only needed the top piece to be assembled.

Here is all the parts laid out. You have the hydraulic lift and it’s cover, 5 caster wheels, 2 plastic hinge covers, tilt tension controller and height adjustment plate, screws, Allen wrenches, and a pair of white gloves to keep the chair clean while you assemble it.

After assembly we have a look at the front and the back of the Flash XL. The included pillows can be removed via plastic clips at the back of the chair.

Here’s a look at the side of the Flash XL. The tilt and height controls are all accessible from this side of the chair. While the tension control is located on the bottom in the middle of the chair.
Below I’ll illustrate some of the detailed features of the EWin Flash XL gaming chair.

According to EWin, you have a tilt range from 85 to 155 degrees with the Flash XL.

EWin lists the height range from the bottom of the wheels to maximum seat height, as 17 to 21 inches, giving you 4 inches of lift to play with finding the right height for you.

The included arm rests on the Flash XL have ‘4D’ adjustments. This allows you to adjust height as illustrated above.

In the photo above you can see how the arm rest can twist at an angle, and you can slide the arm rests forward, back, and even side to side (not illustrated), hence the 4D naming scheme.

At the bottom of the Flash XL we can get a good look at the cast aluminum frame that the caster wheels attach to. This is a light weight piece, but very sturdy and stiff.
I’ve included a few more photos to go over some additional details about the Flash XL gaming chair.

The Flash XL arm rests can be adjusted by about an inch more for clearance, or removed completely by unscrewing the 4 bolts with the included Allen wrench.

Here is a closer look at the tension controller for tilt back and height adjust lever. The height adjust lever also locks in place by pushing the handle inward, to prevent you from leaning back on accident.

The seat back lever is along the right side of the Flash XL and has a fairly stiff spring to keep it locked firmly in place. As stated before, this gives you a range of 85 to 155 degrees of angle on the seat back of the chair.

The included cushions are held in place by a simple plastic clip. I chose to remove these cushions as they didn’t fit in the right spots along my back to make them comfortable.

The caster wheels are one of the things I am skeptical about for long term endurance. The wheels are polyurethane, with a rubber coating on the outer edge of the wheels. This gives the wheels a solid feel on the floor without making any plastic scraping sounds when moving them.
There is essentially 10 wheels on the Flash XL. Granted these caster wheels are larger than other chairs I have seen before, but at it’s maximum weight capacity of 500 pounds, each wheel could see a load of 50 pounds. This is what concerns me for the longevity of the wheels. So far they have held up fine during my two weeks with this chair.
EWin has a great gaming chair with the Flash XL series. Unfortunately for me, the Flash XL is not as comfortable as I would like for extended use. The issue I have with comfort comes from the sweep on the side of the seat. As the angle gets higher towards the back this puts pressure on the sides of my hips creating pressure points that make extended use of the chair uncomfortable. EWin could fix this issue by giving a lower angle of attack to make more seat room for those of us with big bottoms.
The Flash XL is undoubtedly rugged and I do believe it can hold up to 500 pounds. I have never felt as safe in this style of chair before. I have sat in other chairs like this and they felt flimsy, while the Flash XL is rock solid.
Another great feature of the Flash XL is the hydraulic lift, which has a 330 pound rating. With the lift all the way up I only notice minimal sag when I sit on the chair. Any other gas lift I have sat in before would droop and loose it’s pressure. Although, even at 6’5″ height, I actually do not need to use the gas lift at all. The height of the Flash XL full extended would probably not be useful for most desks, as it would simply put your knees too high to fit under them.
The one thing I appreciate the most about the Flash XL is the seat back height. I have a long torso and my head can actually rest on the head rest when I lean back. Most other chairs I have tried to sit in the head rest hits my shoulder blades or lower. EWin really took the time to make sure tall people could make use of the seat back. Also, the seat back is wide enough to keep me feeling snug into the seat without feeling cramped.

Below I’ll go over the ratings based on performance, appearance, construction, functionality, and value.
Performance is mixed with the EWin Flash XL. As I mentioned above the chair is not comfortable for me to use for long durations. As I sit here and write this article I have become uncomfortable resting in this chair.
Appearance is always a subjective issue, but I like how this chair looks. Blue is my favorite color, so this probably affecting my judgement on this. The blue lines along the side give enough contrast to catch your eye, while the patterns on the main chair are kept minimal for a clean look. Keep in mind that EWin offers the Flash XL in a variety of colors and patterns to suit your tastes.
Construction is solid on the Flash XL. This is the sturdiest chair I have ever sat in when it comes to office/gaming chairs. The steel frame construction makes this chair heavy, but needs to be to hold up to 500 pounds.
Functionality of the Flash XL is flawless. The arm rests move how they should. Height, tilt, seat back, and tension all work without issues.
Value of the Flash XL is a bit of a hard sell for me. At the time of writing this article the Flash XL listed for $449.00 (Amazon | NewEgg), which is a bit much compared to the competition. But, most of those other chairs on the market do not have a 500 pound weight limit with the ability to handle people 6’5″ or taller. The value of those two factors can make the difference to someone who wants a well built sturdy chair that they can feel confident in. Use discount code “BenchMark” to receive 10% off.
EWin has built a great chair with one flaw that keeps it from being completely comfortable for me. I want to stress this probably has more to do with my body-type and may not be an issue for others. So keep this in mind if you are thinking about buying the EWin Flash XL gaming chair.
