Optical and laser mice will work fine on just about any smooth surface they encounter. So what is the point of a mousepad? To answer that question we would need a science lesson so we will sum it up with one word: Friction. Everyone has their own preference and ROCCAT has many different gaming surfaces to cater to those needs. Today, Benchmark Reviews will be testing the ROCCAT Siru Pitch Black Desk Fitting Gaming Mousepad model# ROC-13-070. The Siru mousepad is unlike any mousepad I have seen before, it is a high speed wafer thin surface and is truly non-slip thanks to an innovative backing surface. Read on to find out more.

Back in the day a mousepad was a soft cushioned surface designed for ball mice. With the introduction of optical and laser mice, mousepads (for most of us) grew obsolete. Gaming peripheral manufacturers put in a lot of R&D time and money into developing the perfect mousepads for their devices. These surfaces can be hard or soft, thick or thin, increase or reduce drag and much more.

The ROCCAT Siru has its own unique shape to set it apart from all the other oblong mousepads out there. Other than that the overall design is quite plain. The effective size of the Siru mousepad is 34cm x 25cm which is slightly larger than a sheet of A4 paper.

The surface is a highly speckled finish that you only see when you look real close, very similar to a powder coated paint finish. There is a light texture but feels almost smooth.

A unique feature of the Siru mousepad is how thin it is. It is only slightly thicker than the retail packaging. At 0.5mm thick it is both flexible as paper and rigid like plastic.

The backing surface of the ROCCAT Siru Mousepad is a new innovation in non slip and really works well. Over 2000 tiny little pads individually grip your PC desk/table and ensure that the mousepad will not budge even the slightest little bit.

I have been using the ROCCAT Siru Mousepad for close to three weeks now and I would not hesitate to recommend it. Apart from some really light scratches the finish is still very nice. The Siru mousepad slightly reduces drag and provides a more responsive feel to your pointing and clicking device. The non slip backing does exactly what it says on the packaging, far surpassing any non slip solution I have encountered to date.

Before we think about ratings I will write a brief summary for each of the following; Performance, Appearance, Construction, Functionality and Value. I do strongly suggest that you read the entire review, so that you may also arrive at your own conclusions.

The ROCCAT Siru Mousepad performs exactly as described and makes for a pleasurable experience. My mouse (Kone Pure 8200DPI) glides effortlessly over the Siru mousepad and movements feel controlled and very precise.

Apart from the unique shape the ROCCAT Siru Mousepad is otherwise quite plain. It looks like it means business and delivers in that department.

The ROCCAT Siru Mousepad is made from a thin sheet of plastic with a special finish on either side. The Siru is 0.5mm thick and will not suffer issues that other thicker fabric mousepads will such as frayed edges.

The ROCCAT Siru Mousepad essentially becomes the surface onto which it is placed. It stays put wherever you place it and provides an optimum surface for high speed laser and optical mice.

The ROCCAT Siru Mousepad model# ROC-13-070 is available now for £12.04 at Amazon UK ($20 equvalent). This is a very reasonable price for a quality gaming surface

The ROCCAT Siru Mousepad is affordable and effective solution. The non slip backing is really effective too and ensures that the mousepad will not shift at all. The finish is susceptible to scratches which will ruin the look a little but are easily disguised with a quick clean.
