The Xornet II does well when it comes to performance. The Avago 3320 optical sensor showed some acceleration, but it should still be okay for most games. I personally would not use it for any competitive gaming though. One of the biggest concerns about this was the problem with the lift-off distance. The mouse still works with a low lift-off distance. A few minutes into usage, it would stutter and not track properly. Changing the lift-off distance back to high does fix the issue, but I hope a future firmware update can fix this problem.
When it comes to appearance, the Xornet II looks great with its black exterior body design. A blacked-out Cooler Master branding logo is present on the rear of the mouse and glossy parts are nowhere to be seen on the body. The rugged rubberized grips gives the Xornet II a modern look and feel along with a scroll wheel with RGB lighting. The RGB lighting is not the most accurate since changing it to white gives it a pinkish color instead. It would have been nice to see the Cooler Master branding logo light up to match the RGB lighting on the scroll wheel. But doing so would increase the price of this product.
The overall construction and quality of the Xornet II is exceptional. The body is made of plastic making it sturdy enough to handle a few knocks. The buttons feel solid thanks to the OMRON switches. The scroll wheel has a nice grip to it. I just wish it was better constructed as it does make a clicking sound when scrolling up. It may just be a small flaw with our review sample, but this should not be an issue when you do decide to purchase this mouse.
The Xornet II maintains the same functionality as its predecessor. It now includes a software to give the user more flexibility in customization. However, the software can use some improvements. The choices in the software are all grayed out. The program likes starting up with Windows even when I made sure to uncheck the “Automatically start software at Windows startup” box. I was able to fix this by disabling it from starting up through the Windows Task Manager. Lift-off distance can be changed directly from the mouse. This can be useful when using the Xornet II on different surfaces.
As of March 2016, the Cooler Master Xornet II is currently available online for $32.99 (Newegg | Amazon). This makes it a great budget friendly mouse for computer users looking for an inexpensive gaming mouse. It allows the ability to customize DPI settings, lift-off distance, and RGB lighting effects through the software. This makes the Xornet II makes a great competitor in its price category.
